Position

Youth Action Fund is a youth-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to activism by providing resources to young people in Florida. YAF is building a movement of young Floridians to effect progressive change, and we’re looking for a Development and Operations Director to maximize our impact by protecting and strengthening the financial health of the organization, as well as ensuring all programming remains compliant with applicable laws.

As the Development and Operations Director (D.O. Director), you will shepherd YAF’s fundraising strategies, operational processes, and regulatory compliance. In addition, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the D.O. Director will contribute to organizational decision-making at a high-level.

Location: Hybrid

Hours: Part Time (10/wk)

Start date: July 2024

Compensation: $24/hr

Core Responsibilities:


Fundraising [50%]

  • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to diversify revenue streams and achieve annual fundraising goals.

  • Cultivate and steward donor relations with individual donors, foundations, and other partners.

  • Lead grant-writing and proposal development processes, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and funder requirements.

  • Identify grant and development opportunities through existing internal and external sources.

  • Contribute to the planning of designated fundraising events.

Operations [50%]

  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll, PTO (paid time off) allocation, reimbursements and other compensation disbursements as needed.

  • Develop administrative policies and procedures.

  • Assist in the development of annual and quarterly budgets.

  • Performing general correspondence (e.g., thank you letters to donors, communications with vendors). Proofreading communications documents for compliance purposes.

  • Provide counsel to YAF staff on 501(c)(3) / 501(c)(4) compliance as it regards to organizational programming and activities.

  • In tandem with the Executive Director, manage communications and delegation with tax accountants and other professional support.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or related operations/development field.

  • Minimum two years of experience in nonprofit management and/or fundraising.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of C3/C4 compliance principles and other regulatory requirements.

  • Shared commitment to YAF’s stated values.

Nice to have:

  • Proven track record of success in securing grants, major gifts, and sponsorships.

  • Proficiency with payroll management systems (Gusto).

  • Proficiency with budget and expense management software (Quickbooks).
