ORGANIZING DIRECTOR

Take point on YAF's statewide original campaigns, and shepherd a winning strategy to empower Florida's youth.

Youth Action Fund is a youth-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to breaking down barriers to organizing by providing resources to young people in Florida. YAF is building a movement of young Floridians to win transformative change, and we’re looking for a driven Organizing Director to lead our state-wide original campaigns and take point on developing strategies to meet organizational goals. 


The Organizing Director will play a key leadership role in advancing YAF’s mission by driving our state-wide organizing efforts. This role requires a passionate, strategic, and experienced organizer who can manage multiple campaigns, develop young leaders, and expand the organization’s reach and impact across Florida. 

 

Position Title: Organizing Director

Reports to: Executive Director 

Key Relationships: Executive Director, Communications Director, Advising Director, Training Director, Advising Team

Location: Hybrid

Hours: Full-Time (40 hrs/wk)


Start date: ASAP

Compensation: $45,000 - $50,000 Annual Salary depending on experience.

Core Responsibilities:


Supervision

  • Lead and manage the Organizing Department, including the delegation, training, and supervision of organizers.

  • Manage internal ad hoc staff teams for individual projects, actions, & campaigns. 

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that aligns with YAF’s values and mission.

  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and contribute to organizational decision-making. 

  • Strategic Planning

  • Develop Strategic plans to achieve established organizational objectives, including setting goals, timelines, and milestones.

  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to establish effective strategies for grassroots organizing and community outreach.

Grassroots Mobilization

  • Develop and implement effective grassroots mobilization strategies to engage target communities and youth.

  • Organize direct actions, rallies, town hall meetings, lobby days, and other events on behalf of YAF.

  • Coalition Building & Management

  • Build relationships with partner organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to maximize collective impact.

  • Represent YAF in key alliances, coalitions, and at strategic conferences, gatherings, etc.

  • Collaborate with coalition members to develop joint strategies, coordinate actions, and leverage collective resources.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Provide input on relevant grant proposals and reports

  • Prepare op-eds, essays, presentations, and other public presentations of YAF and its work


Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proven experience in grassroots organizing and campaign management, with a focus on issue advocacy or political campaigns. Statewide or national experience is strongly preferred.

  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively managing a diverse team of organizers and volunteers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including public speaking, campaign messaging, and report writing.

  • Knowledge of Florida's political landscape and experience working with local and state-wide organizations.

  • Proficient in utilizing organizing and communication software, including CRM systems, digital organizing tools, and social media platforms.

  • Detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational and project management skills.

  • Experience working with students and youth.

  • Shared commitment to YAF’s stated values.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
